SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

ELIGIBILITY: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who will be pursuing an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree on a full time basis at a 2 or 4 year accredited institution of higher education.

 Applicant must be a son or daughter of a member of Local 584. (or whose legal guardian or financially responsible grandparent is a member of Local 584.)

 Grade point average of 3.0 or top 1/2 of graduating class.

 Applicant may include two letters of recommendation or other evidence of their character or abilities.

 DEADLINE:      Applications must be postmarked no later than May 30 and mailed to:

 The winner(s) will be announced by June 30

 NUMBER: This scholarship is a one time award. Two (2) scholarship(s) of $250.00 will be awarded.

 HOW WILL THE SCHOLARSHIP BE PAID: The check(s) will be made payable and mailed to the institution of the recipient’s choice. If the recipient fails to enroll, the check will be returned to Local 584.

 WITHDRAWAL: If the applicant withdraws for any reason other than sickness or injury and receives any tuition or fee refund from the institution, applicant may be required to repay all or a portion of the scholarship award.

 HOW IS SELECTION MADE: The Scholarship Selection Committee will thoroughly examine all the application material submitted by each scholarship applicant. The selection committee will carefully consider any recommendations or other evidence of the applicant’s character or abilities. Basing its decision on the entire record of each applicant, the selection committee will then choose the winner(s). The decision of the selection committee is final.

 SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE: The individuals who serve on the selection committee will not be a member of Local 584 or a relative of a member of local 584. The President of Local 584, with the board’s approval, will appoint 3 individuals to serve on the selection committee (eg: faculty member, member of another union, nonrepresented employee)
