Alverno Scholars

Winter 2004

NOTE: WE MAY NOT HAVE ANY APPUCANTS FROM YOUR COUNTY!

Warm Greetings to You This Holiday Season:

You may already know about the highly unique Alverno Scholars of Wisconsin program, now in its second year, but you may not know that we are still seeking applicants from many of Wisconsin’s counties. There’s still time to meet the February 15 deadline, so we’re reaching out to you this holiday season to urge you to encourage a young woman from your community to apply.

This means one high school graduate from your county will be able to attend Alverno College, one of the nation’s most prestigious women’s colleges (U.S. News & World Report Programs to Look For 2005), at a price that can’t be beat That young woman could be sitting in one of your community’s classrooms right now making a decision as to which college is best for her.

You can make the difference for that student. The enclosed brochure provides all of the details for applying, and Alverno’s Web site (www.alverno.edu) is filled with even more details, plus downloadable applications and materials. Simply scroll down to our “News From Alverno” section in the center of the homepage, and click on the Alverno Scholars link.

This scholarship is generously funded by the Reiman Foundation again and is designed to draw the best and the brightest from around the state to this award-winning institution. It’s a remarkable gift that provides a one-year full tuition scholarship to one high school senior (female) in the Class of ‘05 from every county in the state. Alverno College and the Reiman Foundation recognize that while there are a lot of academically gifted women in Wisconsin, college is not always a realistic goal financially.

And there’s more aid available for years 2—4! The Alverno Scholars of Wisconsin award provides one year of free tuition (estimated at $15,000 for next year). The minimum award for the Alverno Scholars for years 2—4 will be $6000 if they maintain Alverno College’s academic standards, and there may be more aid available based on individual need. Our financial aid office is prepared to assist our Alverno Scholars with securing aid for their subsequent college years, and additional expenses incurred, such as room and board.

So, please take a moment to review these materials, and then consider doing a young woman one of the greatest favors of her young life — encourage her to apply to be one of only 72 Alverno Scholars of Wisconsin. The impact will be revolutionary.

If you have any questions about this program, please do not hesitate to call our admissions office at 414-382-6100, or 800-933-3401.

Sincerely,

Kathleen O’Brien, Ph.D.                      Mary Ka Farr I
